Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic rock opera about Jesus' last days
Paramount Theater presents Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tom Rice's classic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Initially controversial when when it premiered on Broadway in 1971 (where it was nominated for five Tony Awards), this rollicking musical tale follows Jesus in his last days as he reckons with the betrayal of Judas and his own impending death. Bringing the passion right up to date, the story is brings in modern social and political themes, and paints its characters (including Judas) as flawed, but sympathetic beings.
Packed full of signature Lloyd Webber bombast, the score includes such well known numbers as 'Superstar' and 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', making it both an important piece of musical theater, and a favorite for local theater companies around the world.
