Why see A Streetcar Named Desire?

Tennessee Williams' 1947 hit

First opening on Broadway in 1947, Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire follows the life of protagonist Blanche DuBois who leaves her aristocratic lifestyle behind after a dramatic loss leaves her penniless. She enters New Orleans French Quarter to live with her younger sister and brother-in-law, where tensions quickly reach boiling point as the couple discovers the truth about Blanche's reasons for her poverty.

A Streetcar Named Desire is widely regarded as one of the best plays of the 20th century. The production received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, the New York Drama Critics' Circle for Best Play and Pulitzer Prize for Drama following its premiere.
