August Rush gets stage adaptation
See it before it heads to Broadway! Having been in the works for many years fans will be glad to hear that the hit 2007 film, August Rush is finally receiving its world premiere as a stage musical. This brand new musical by Glen Berger (Spider-Man: Turn Off Dark) and Mark Mancina (who scored the original film) will be directed by Tony Winner John Doyle and will play two exclusive runs in Virginia and Illinois before heading to Broadway.
With a rich emotional and musical journey at its heart, this story full hope became the feel good movie of the year. Starring the late and great Robin Williams, August Rush was nominated of an Oscar and a Grammy in 2008 although it didn't win it touched the hearts of audiences across the world.
What is August Rush about?
Evan Taylor lives in a Boys orphanage on the outskirts of New York, but this young dreamer has an intense desire to find his parents who he believes never wanted to give him up. Feeling called by music, Evan leaves his orphanage behind and heads to New York where he becomes a young protge. With the help of Maxwell 'Wizard' Wallace Evan's talent and fame grows, could Evan finally find what he's been searching for...

August Rush The Musical World Premier at the Paramount Theater, Aurora, IL. Brilliant adaption of this deceptively simple, engaging story of coming of age, Independence, betrayal, resilience, talent and hope. The staging and lighting is powerful and so cleverly utilized for this “one act,†no intermission journey of a young orphaned boy convinced his parents, who he has never seen, are somewhere looking for him. With music so central to the story itself, the story-telling through such a talented ensemble is enhanced by multi-gifted cast members whose acting, movement and incredible on-stage musicianship is mesmerizing. Right before the audience’s eyes in this wonderful theater, the intricacies of this limited dialogue, music dominated continuous movement thoroughly focused this fan of the movie drawing me into this wonderful new interpretation.
