The Producers

The Producers at Paramount Theatre

Why see The Producers?

Mel Brooks' Musical Masterpiece!

Adapted from his own 1967 movie, The Producers is Mel Brooks' laugh-a-minute musical romp, packed with larger-than-life characters, wickedly funny double entendres, and some very good bad taste musical numbers. It follows Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his accountant Leo Bloom as they embark on a seemingly foolproof scheme - raise a lot of money for a new musical, but make sure the resulting show is so terrible it closes after opening night. All the remaining investors' money is theirs for the keeping!

Debuting on the Great White Way in 2001, with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane leading the cast, The Producers won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. This Aurora Theatre production is directed by Jim Corti.

My wife wasn't familiar with the story so I was worried she wouldn't get the verbal exchanges, which are essential to enjoying the Mel Brooks comedy. I found myself laughing out loud, and noting my wife was doing the same. I knew the story well enough to anticipate each scene. I was particularly looking forward to meeting Ullah (played b Uma Thurman in the movie). The set was great and the scene changes were seamless. The only thing lacking was a few cannon barrels pointing at the crowd. Well Ullah Swanson Hanson Benson didn't disappoint either. I've got to go. It's almost 11 am and my wife is waiting. ...
